Scientific Introspection is my monograph on philosophical psychology in 45,000 words. It was scheduled for launch the day after Labor Day, but it escaped early because I entered the wrong date into a vendor’s website. Rather than fight with that, I thought, “Okay, it wants to go outside right now.” So now you can get it on September 4, 2020.

Scientific Introspection is neither sci- nor fi-, but it’s very psi (psychological).  Psi-non-fi? It’s an essay I’ve been working on for twenty-five years.

I started writing it when I realized how incredibly strange it is that of all the billions of creatures on this planet only one type has the ability to think about thinking.

It would be crazy to let such an ability go to waste. We do not have good methods for harnessing our introspective ability into a generally-accepted method for studying the mind. Scientific psychology is not up to the task. It needs a little help. This is help.

Scientific Introspection describes a method, a tool to reveal the mind.

When I give a talk about my novels, people always ask. “Where do you get your ideas?”  All my psi-fi novels derive from my work in philosophical psychology. I decided to publish one of the key source documents. If you’re curious about the real, not the fictional mind, give Scientific Introspection a try.

Who would like Scientific Introspection? Psychologists and anyone interested in how the mind works. Historians of psychology would like it. Philosophers of mind would find it interesting. Epistemologists and phenomenologists are naturals for Scientific Introspection (and they’re under every rock, if you take the trouble to look). Likewise, philosophers of science should be provoked by it. Roboticists and engineers interested in artificial intelligence would enjoy it. And, I think, readers and writers of psychological sci-fi would find it stimulating.

I’m a little bit of all those things, so I guess the real answer is that I like what Scientific Introspection has to say. Maybe you will too.
